New Bridge Planned for Edmonton
The Walterdale Bridge has reached the end of its lifespan and is going to be replaced. The City of Edmonton is currently in the "concept" phase of replacing the bridge. The council would like to have a "signature" bridge; a structure to beautify our city that Edmontonians can be proud of. At a recent open house four bridge styles were presented, giving examples of other bridges from around the world. I think its great that the city is hoping to build something beautiful, instead of just the same old same old. More information can be found on the City of Edmonton web site. Here are the style options under consideration:

Along with the bridge, the Rossdale neighbourhood will be going under a lot of changes. The Urban design plan for West Rossdale is a mixed-use, walkable neighbourhood that would feature wide boulevards and generous sidewalks, with no buildings taller than the cupola of the legislature. The proposed plan, which should go to a public hearing in early 2011, also has a riverfront promenade.
